Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayln Williams.
Hi Jayln, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m Jayln Williams, the Founder, and CEO of MR. SUGAR®: FAMOUS TREATS. I started my baking journey at age of 10, baking box cakes/ cupcakes at home. It was then and a myriad of many other times that I realized this was something I had a passion for, as well as many other talents I withhold.
Baking became such a staple in my life, that during the course of junior high, I took a home economics class to perfect my baking, cooking, home crafting, etc. At the age of 18, I told myself I was going to become the next big baker and home interior designer. Finally, beginning this journey now at the age of 26 feels so rewarding and at the right time of my life. Of course, I feel I could have started my business at a younger age, but I’ve always lived by the quote, “When it’s my turn, God will let me know”.
Growing up in Decatur, Georgia, I was blessed to have a strong single mother that ensured I got my education first and never needed anything. I’ve always known I was destined for greatness when I successfully passed the Georgia Gifted students program and was enrolled in honors classes from primary school to senior year of high school.
Standing above the statistics, I knew being in the streets and doing outlandish things that most teenagers do, wasn’t for me. I always wanted the best for myself and my family. Creating this brand is not only just a business but it’s also creating generational wealth for my family, being that we are African-American middle-class citizens.
MR SUGAR®: FAMOUS TREATS was fabricated back in April 2021 and has engaged in months of planning. Being based out of Fayetteville, North Carolina, is a full-circle moment since it’s where I began my military career as an Active Duty Soldier at Fort Bragg. I am still serving, going on 7 years and I am running two businesses out of my home.
I strive and aspire my life to be the best it can be and I know I can only do that by staying busy and perfecting my craft into something I love doing. With my creativity and gifted hands, I am very sure this isn’t the only business niche that I will get into and accomplish, in this lifetime.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting to this point of my entrepreneurial career has been a huge blessing in itself, but it hasn’t always been an easy road. For months, I tried my best to get friends, family, and social media to see me for who I am and to push my creative mind onto them, so that I may be rewarded. Those actions never worked. I’ve been learning the in and outs of business ownership and being a self-taught chef.
Days upon days, I strive to be authentic and expand my craft into a variety of niches that I’ve never thought I could be successful in. It is very easy to feel burnt out and get depressed that life isn’t on your side at the moment, but I will always remember that there is only one me and if I don’t do what I was called to do, who is going to do it for me.
No one. I’ve learned to block out the world’s negative influences and serve my purpose.
We’ve been impressed with MR. SUGAR®: FAMOUS TREATS, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MR. SUGAR®: FAMOUS TREATS is a bakery/dessert shop/ catering service that currently specializes in cinnamon rolls, cookies, signature flavored butter, custom cakes, and much more. Notice that I said currently because as we expand and open a brick-and-mortar, the menu will grow and be curated by the customers. I created the company to be based directly on what the people want from a dessert brand. We recently attended a fall festival in Fayetteville, as a test run and were overwhelmed by the amount of traffic acquired and the reviews given.
This isn’t your ordinary mom-and-pop bakery. We are going to become one of the fastest-growing and if god willing, one of the biggest dessert manufacturers in the world. Starting December 1st, 2021, we will be officially be opening for ghost kitchen operations and mobile food delivery services in Fayetteville, NC. We will be teaming up with DoorDash for a wide spectrum of ways to get your hands on our famous treats.
In mid-2022, we plan to introduce merch and our products will be available for shipping, as well as at select locations. I will begin vlogging my business ownership and MR. SUGAR® journey on my YouTube channel, ‘RAPLHEAL’, starting in the new year. So, be sure to tune in.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I wouldn’t have grown into the man that I am today if it wasn’t for God, my mother, and my grandmother. My mother and grandmother always instilled so many positive affirmations and that I can achieve anything I put my mind to in this world. My personality will forever be comedic but stern. I see myself as the fun boss, that doesn’t mind putting his foot down after the fun and games are over.
That’s my way of saying, there’s money to be made. As stated before baking and cooking have been a staple in my life, growing up around all women, but I’m also creative in many other fields as well. Such as graphic design, home architecture, vlogging, video editing/animations, etc. Being multifaceted in so many things has given me a greater outlook on life and the things around me.
