The answer to the question "Is funnel cake a cake?" is no. A delicious, light batter is fried till golden brown and then typically covered with powdered sugar, known as funnel cake. It's a sweet and delectable fair dish. Actually, making them is very simple. You can prepare this simple homemade funnel cake recipe if you can whisk up a simple batter and heat some oil in a skillet!
Ingredients

1 cup Pancake Mix

4 tbsp granulated sugar

1 large egg

3 tsp cinnamon sugar

2/3 cup Milk
-
2 tsp vanilla extract
-
1½ tbsp maple syrup

5-6 cups vegetable frying oil

Dust of powdered sugar, for garnishing
To make the funnel cake
Directions
Preheat frying oil to 335 degrees.
In a medium bowl, add the pancake mix, sugar, egg and cinnamon sugar. Then gradually add in the milk. Whisk until fully combined.
In the same bowl, add vanilla extract and maple syrup, for flavoring. Mix well.
From a batter dispenser/ measuring cup, add the funnel cake batter to oil, in a squiggly pattern to create your funnel cake. Allow to cook on each side for at least 5-7 minutes.
Once complete, place the funnel cake on a paper towel or wire rack to drain oil effectively. Dust powdered sugar on top, for garnishing.
Add customized toppings as you wish. Enjoy! **For my funnel cake, I added sliced strawberries, cookies and cream spread, chocolate sauce and caramel sauce.
